2001-07-23 @ 9:53 a.m. I was finishing some spanish "lab" work at the listening lab in the parking garage (wescoe) and there were about 3 or 4 foreign students in there too. They were repeating what was on their listening tape. Ah, you wouldn't believe the things the tape made them say! Here are some examples: *my brother has a good head of hair* *You must be ready for the talent show because you have worked hard* *Is your dental appointment today?* *He was a nice friend, but he passed away three years ago* (I'm not kidding) *The supermarket is closed. We cannot buy any food* *We cannot pay the rent for our new home* *How much is it worth? I don't think I can pay for it.* OK...thats enough. I feel sorry for these students because these really aren't normal everyday sentences of expression (except for the last one if you're a college student). I think it might be approiate for these ESL teachers to write some more common phrases in the future. Well, my spanish presentation is tomorrow. Looks like I will be working on it all day today. FUN FUN FUN. I just remembered something I heard on Car Talk this past Saturday. They were talking about common "last phrases". You know, for instance: *I see* *OK, see you later* *Sounds quite interesting to me* *Yes (or No)* You get the idea... Well the best one that they brought up on the show was this one: * "Hey guys, watch this!" *
