Dean's List and why it's not my fault that I can't find a job yet

2002-06-05 @ 6:06 p.m.

I just got this email from the KU Registrar:

You have made the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Honor Roll for the Spring 2002 semester. In order to make the list a student needs to get a 3.5 term GPA in twelve or more hours. We want to congratulate you on your fine achievement!

Our congratulations, once again, and our best wishes for the future.

Sincerely,

Pam Houston

Director

Good to know that I'm doing fine work at the University. Maybe I'm not much of a failure after all.

I went job hunting again...otherwise known as a gift from hell. Most of the places I went to were buisnesses that had help wanted ads in the Journal World. However, only 2 of the 8 that I went to were still hiring! The Subway manager couldn't find my application and just told me to come back when he was hiring again. I should have told him to take that stupid 'help wanted' sign off his door if he wasn't hiring anymore, but I felt bad for the guy...he was obviously the most insecure and disorganized manager I approached for a job. I picked up 2 leads today too, which is good. The manager at Perkins told me to come back tomorrow and talk to a 'Dave' and the nursing home (yes I said nursing home) looked pretty interested as well. It definately feels good to just get out there and pick the brains of these managers and have the simple pitch in hand: 'Hi. My name is Eric Goering. I'm interested in working here and I was wondering if you still had any job openings.' But although it feels good to be doing it, not getting that job can hurt too. Well, if I don't get a job now, then I figure that I'll just keep looking every day until I find something. Oh yeah, my dad now finally understands that the job market here is shit and is now off of my case. That makes me feel much better...and I definately did my job today, so I can be proud of that...for now.

I got a couple of postcards and an email from Madeleine yesterday and today. Sounds like she's having fun with her family on her trip. Now that I think about it, I haven't been on a big trip in a couple of years. But oh yeah, I don't like traveling much either. It would be nice to get away though. Going to an island or some international country would be nice, but I would probably choose going out to the Pacific Northwest because I haven't been there yet and I hear that it's nice out there. Well, one thing is for sure: something like that isn't going to happen this summer.
