2003-04-06 @ 4:11 p.m. I think a thirty three point win over Marquette (a team that beat Missouri in overtime, Pittsburgh, and Kentucky...the team EVERYONE thought would win it all) gives KU a confidence boost going into the monday night matchup versus Syracuse. The entire national media is behind KU, Missouri fans even support KU. I went to the Syracuse newspaper website and they think that Syracuse can win...but their articles aren't nearly as confident sounding as everyone else's who support KU or just think they're going to win. And it's really kind of difficult not to just say 'yeah, KU's got it in the bag' if you're an outsider who watched both games last night. But as a Kansas basketball fanatic, I'll say this: there's still 40 minutes left of basketball left to be played. The score is currently tied at zero. Nothing can be taken for granted until the final buzzer. And if KU plays the way they have throughout this tournament tomorrow night, KU players, fans, and Roy Williams will finally be satisfied with a national championship. Thats why I didn't celebrate last night. I'll save that for tomorrow. It's not that I'm that confident that KU will win. It's because I don't want to cheer for a semifinal game if we end up losing the championship game. To me it serves no purpose to celebrate early. KU players didn't jump for joy either. Aaron Miles ran past the CBS cameras silently saying to himself 'one more, one more.' They're that focused and determined to finish this tournament on top and is also why they'll save the celebration for when it matters. And like prior to the Marquette game, I'm not worried about KU losing against Syracuse either. I think it will be an exciting game and KU will be playing at their highest intensity level of the season...which is scary considering how they beat powerhouses Duke and Arizona as well as a respected Marquette team. They needed extremely high intensity and determination in all of those games. And anticipating KU's will to win excites me more than the championship game itself. It's going to be so fun to watch. I'm not saying KU's going to trash Syracuse. I just think it's going to be very hard to beat KU at this point in the season. Everything is on the line. KU's not giving up at this point. They're not backing down. And that's exciting. That's KU basketball.
