Havin' a Good Time!

2003-05-08 @ 10:00 a.m.

Widespread Panic. The show the first night was amazing. They sound really good live, which surprised Joe and me a little because we have a lot of bootleg recordings off the internet that don't really sound too great. But at this concert they sounded just like their album recordings. It was really cool. Each show lasted about three and a half hours! And there were so many people there packed into the little Uptown theater. So the first night I got really dehydrated and the second half of the show I couldn't even remember what they played very much, but it was all really good. Last night was pretty good too, but I was SO freaking tired from the first night that I just sat through the first set and then went with Joe to eat at Chipotle in Westport. I'd had enough live music for the two days...last night was acoustic too, which was pretty cool. They played some of my favorite songs acoustic like 'Climb to Safety,' 'Pickin Up the Pieces,' and 'Old Joe.' But they also played some songs off of their new album Ball (which I have not listened to yet) and most of the songs on there have a country feel that I'm not that impressed with. If I had it my way, it would have been cool if they just played either 'Climb to Safety' or 'Pickin Up the Pieces' at the first night's show and we didn't even go the second night. But its OK...seriously, the first night was so awesome that I would have paid the $80 or so that I paid for the two tickets for the first night alone.

Also last night was DEFINITELY not a night to be smoking or doing any other illegal drugging activity at the Uptown. People were getting thrown out left and right. Personally, I don't think smoking pot is a big of a deal at all, because I do smoke it occasionally. But this concert gave Joe and I even more of an example to just smoke the herb in private. Smoking in public can have some serious consequences!

Well, my final class of the year is in one hour (psychology). Today I'm just going to 'chill' as they say. I've worked very hard on two papers and have been really stressed the past month, so I'm just going to take today to relax. Friday is the ever famous Stop Day and that will be fun too. I guess Pearson is having a newmen (sophs & freshmen) vs. oldmen (everyone else) ultimate frisbee match at Fraser around noon tomorrow. I love ultimate! And later that day I'm going out to Clinton lake to hang out with drumline people at a party organized by none other than Keith Lloyd (the now former KU Drumline instructor). Then Keegan (who cleverly calls himself 'Your friendly neighborhood bass drummer' (HAHAHA) is hosting his famous Hawaiian party at his apartment that night. So Friday should be a great stop day. But then I have to study a little for my five finals. I'll be OK though. Most of them will be a piece of cake because I've worked really hard in school this semester to understand everything already. I'll be prepared.

Well, the countdown is definitely on until Madeleine comes back. 6 days! You should read her diary about her experiencing the Neil Young concert on Monday. I can't wait to see him at Bonnaroo!!

Well, I'm going to get some breakfast to begin my day of 'chilling.'

Oh, HI ANN.
